Festival of Arts Gone Wild, May 18-23, 2026

The "Arts en Folie" festival in Sarlat is an art and experimentation event held every year in May, a major cultural event open to all. Created by and for the citizens, it transforms public spaces with street art in all its forms, highlighting everyone's values while respecting differences.

Each edition revolves around a common theme, allowing the numerous partners to offer shows, concerts, and a wide variety of creative works: exhibitions of sculptures, paintings, installations, photographs, and many other artistic forms. This creative diversity addresses social issues and challenges both artists and the public.

To accommodate these proposals, several emblematic venues are being used, such as the cultural center, the former bishop's palace, the Malraux gallery, and the Maison de la Boétie, offering an ideal setting for the talents present. The festival gives everyone a space for expression and promotes intergenerational encounters, bringing together children, teenagers, adults, people with disabilities, professional and amateur artists.

Most shows and exhibitions are free, making culture accessible to the widest possible audience and breaking down as many social barriers as possible. This accessibility strengthens the presence of an audience seeking meaning, identity, and culture. By giving form to ideas, staging gestures, and making words resonate, the festival transforms conceptual art into a concrete experience and, year after year, fosters an event where creation culminates in a truly shared "work of art."

sarlat en fête / ringueta/jeux anciens/ponts du mois de mai

La Ringueta in Sarlat on May 23 and 24, 2026

La Ringueta is a festival of traditional games from yesteryear . Come and discover how our ancestors entertained themselves in the Dordogne.
For two days, during the Pentecost weekend, every other year (even years), the Place de la Grande Rigaudie in Sarlat is transformed into a large playground with nearly 30 traditional Occitan games to discover and try out.

Iconic games

The Ramp
This game can still be found at many village festivals in Périgord.
This is a betting game with three pins in a row and a ball slightly larger than a pétanque ball. Like bowling, the objective is to knock down all three pins in a single throw: when this is achieved, it's called a "Rampeau" and earns the right to play the next round. The overall winner is the player who stays in the game the longest and achieves the most "Rampeaux."

The Barrel Rodeo
This game, very popular with children, involves sitting astride an old barrel threaded onto a mast about 20 cm in diameter, then moving forward by pulling on a rope. It's a real balancing act, and staying in the saddle isn't always so easy!

The Greased Pole
This is one of the highlights of the Ringueta. A tall pole is erected in the center of the Plaza de la Grande Rigaudie, and participants must climb to the top with their bare hands to win one of the prizes. If you're not afraid of heights, it's a challenge worth trying.

In addition to this, there is the traditional Game of the Goose, the stilt race, and for the strongest, the unmissable tug-of-war.

The traditional meal

To regain strength after the games, a grand banquet is offered. On the menu: the famous garlic soup, the tourrain with bread which is enjoyed while making chabrol, goose cracklings, the Périgord enchaud (pork confit in its fat), beans in walnut oil, walnut cakes, as well as many other specialties which make the gastronomy of Périgord famous.
